EQUALITY AND DIVERSITY POLICY

1. Our Commitment

RISE 3x3 is committed to promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion in everything we do. We believe that basketball should be open and welcoming to everyone, regardless of background, and we are dedicated to providing a safe, fair, and inclusive environment for all players, coaches, volunteers, officials, staff, and spectators.

We will not tolerate discrimination, harassment, victimisation, or bullying of any kind, and we will take appropriate action against anyone found to be in breach of this policy.

2. Scope

This policy applies to everyone involved with RISE 3x3, including:

  • Players 

  • Coaches, mentors, and volunteers

  • Officials and event staff

  • Committee and board members

  • Parents, guardians, and spectators at our events

It covers all activities carried out under the RISE 3x3 name, including training sessions, games, tournaments, social events, and online communications (including social media).

3. Our Principles

RISE 3x3 will ensure that all individuals are treated fairly and with respect, irrespective of:

  • Age

  • Disability

  • Gender reassignment

  • Marriage or civil partnership status

  • Pregnancy or maternity

  • Race, ethnicity, or nationality

  • Religion or belief

  • Sex

  • Sexual orientation

  • Socio-economic background

We will:

  • Promote equal opportunities for participation in all our activities

  • Ensure selection, recruitment, and progression decisions are based on merit and ability

  • Actively encourage participation from underrepresented groups in basketball

  • Make reasonable adjustments to remove barriers to participation wherever possible

  • Ensure our facilities, communications, and events are as accessible and inclusive as we can make them

  • Provide equality and diversity awareness as part of induction for coaches, volunteers, and officials

4. Unacceptable Behaviour

The following will not be tolerated within RISE 3x3:

  • Discrimination, whether direct or indirect

  • Harassment or bullying, including on the basis of any characteristic listed above

  • Victimisation of anyone who raises a concern in good faith

  • Derogatory language, jokes, or "banter" that target a person's identity or background

  • Exclusion of individuals from activities on discriminatory grounds

5. Responsibilities

  • The Committee/Board is responsible for reviewing and upholding this policy and ensuring it is communicated to all members.

  • Coaches and volunteers must lead by example, treat everyone fairly, and challenge inappropriate behaviour when they see it.

  • All members are expected to treat one another with respect and to report any concerns.

6. Raising A Concern

Anyone who experiences or witnesses behaviour that breaches this policy should report it as soon as possible to a member of the RISE 3x3 senior team.

All concerns will be taken seriously, treated confidentially wherever possible, and investigated promptly and fairly. No one will be treated unfairly as a result of raising a concern in good faith.

7. Review

This policy will be reviewed annually, or sooner if required by changes in legislation or best practice, to ensure it remains effective and up to date.

RISE 3x3 is committed to promoting a positive basketball community where everyone feels welcome, valued, and able to thrive.
