The 2025 FIBA 3x3 AmeriCup in León ended exactly how many expected, with USA 3x3's mens and womens teams walking away with gold. We give credit to some of the more underrated teams too, as we review the Semis and Finals in Mexico this past weekend.

The AmeriCup always brings drama, but this year’s edition in Mexico had an added edge.
Between home-court noise, shifting form across the pools, and a few dark horses pushing the favourites deeper into games than expected, the final day was entertaining, to say the least.
Women’s Semi-Finals
The United States opened with annihilation of the Dominican Republic - a game that some may have perhaps thought would be tighter. Crisp spacing and sharper movement gave the U.S. repeated opportunities to score at the rim. Along with solid defense, the Dominicans had nowhere to turn and lost 21-5.
On the opposite side, Canada remained disciplined and held off the Brazilians. It was a semi-final played in fits and bursts - but Canada, absorbing physical possessions, responded with clean perimeter looks, eventually winning 21-10.
That win set up a USA vs Canada final that felt like an inevitable showdown the moment the tournament schedule was released.
Men’s Semi-Finals
The U.S. men advanced through a competitive semis shaped by their interior presence. Their approach was simple: high-value shots, dominate the glass, and force opponents into bad shot attempts. Brazil (who we had stated in an earlier article were ones to watch out for) did well to get into the Semis but couldn't do any more. The USA team was far too dominant and won 21-8.
Puerto Rico vs Canada was an amazing, to-the-wire game. In the last seconds, Canada had a chance to tie it but the ball rattle out after a long-range two and meant that PR secured a 19-17 victory. One game we will likely re-watch!

Women’s Final - USA vs Canada
It was a hard-fought, close game. Canada pushed the US women for all 10 minutes but the U.S squad. repeatedly found quality scoring opportunities off defensive rebounds and early-action sets. Allisha Gray delivered the decisive moments with freethrows after an ill-timed foul by Canada, and walked away with the tournament MVP, cementing her impact across the knockout rounds.
Canada has always been a strong team but on this occasion the Americans just proved too dominant both inside the paint and out.

Men’s Final - USA vs Puerto Rico
The men’s final leaned heavily on physicality. The United States controlled the interior from the outset, pulling Puerto Rico into a pace they didn’t fully settle into. Cameron Forte - relentless around the rim all weekend - was the difference-maker. His finishing, rebounding and strength under pressure earned him MVP honours and powered a 21-15 U.S. victory.
Puerto Rico fought, particularly in sequences where their spacing opened up quick scoring chances, but the U.S. defence was too much and the Americans had too much fire power too, particularly with the likes of Dylan Travis who finished with six points and three rebounds in the final game.
Beyond the gold medals, both U.S. teams left León with valuable ranking points, continental titles, and the momentum that matters in the tightening global 3x3 calendar. MVP honours for Gray and Forte were deserved acknowledgements of consistent, high-impact performances across the weekend.
Today marks the start of the LA28 Olympics journey, where all ranking points count towards Olympic qualification. The Americans may already have guaranteed spots as the host nation but both the men and women winning in the AmeriCup was a big statement to the rest of the world - they're here to play and they're here to win.
