31 January 2025, Glasgow: The Scottish basketball federation, basketballscotland, is partnering with RISE 3x3 Basketball - the UK’s first organisation offering year-round 3x3 opportunities and expertise - to bring more 3x3 to Scotland and help support the growth of basketball across the country.

3x3 is a fast-paced, fun and modern version of regular 5v5 basketball that’s gaining worldwide popularity. Considered “the number one street sport in the world,”  3x3’s growth in the UK can be likened to the establishment and boom in popularity of other short-form sports like Rugby 7s or padel tennis. It is a recent addition to the Olympics and will feature in the Glasgow Commonwealth Games next year.

To help grow the game and inspire a new generation of players, coaches, officials and event organisers, free workshops in Glasgow and Dunfermline on 8 and 9 March have been arranged for anyone interested to learn more about 3x3 basketball and help them to get involved.

The workshops will include on-court and off-court presentations, with experts in 3x3, as well as a chance to network with other like-minded basketball fans in the community.

The workshops will be hosted by Martin Dyan, CEO & Founder of RISE 3x3. As well as running RISE 3x3 - which hosts the UK’s first 3x3 league and the UK’s biggest one day 3x3 tournament - he is the current Consultant 3x3 Basketball Programme Manager for the British Basketball Federation and Commonwealth Games Independent Advisor for 3x3 Basketball and Wheelchair 3x3 basketball.

Martin Dyan, CEO and Founder, RISE 3x3 Basketball said: “3x3 is an incredibly fun, very accessible game and it’s becoming more and more popular. It goes beyond the sport itself - as well as the incredible mental and physical benefits it brings, it’s the music, culture and energy that also makes 3x3 so engaging.

I’m excited to work with basketballscotland to help bring more 3x3 to communities across the country - we’ll provide the tools to help people do more, so that we can all rise together.”

Amy Kirkhouse, 3x3 Project Lead, basketballscotland: “With 3x3 featuring as one of the sports in the Commonwealth Games in 2026, now felt like the perfect time to run the 3x3 workshops and partner with RISE 3x3.

We are running these free workshops to provide an opportunity to learn valuable skills and connect with other 3x3 enthusiasts. We want to facilitate the growth of 3x3 and empower those with an interest in 3x3 to thrive as players, coaches, officials or event organisers.

This is just the start, our aim is that these workshops, and the activity we have planned for after, will create a truly positive and long-lasting impact in communities across Scotland. We’re elevating the game and can’t wait to see everyone get involved.”

3x3 featured heavily in the news recently - in December 2024, UK Sport awarded the British Basketball Federation £2.2925m in the lead-up to the LA28 Olympics, focusing primarily on establishing a greater 3x3 pathway and presence both domestically and around the world and to support the growth of the 3x3 and 5v5 game overall in the UK.

People can register for the workshops via basketballscotland.co.uk. There are limited spaces available - deadline for registration is 2 March 2025.
